The Students

Roy Chan
Roy Chan is our team public relations representative. He is a senior in systems and control engineering and will be focusing on the hardware aspect of the project. Specifically he will be focusing on developing the bluetooth communication between the Simband and the hip connector.

Karly Franz
Karly Franz is a senior electrical engineer and biomedical engineer. She is team leader for Project Silver Steps and is focusing on designing, constructing, and testing the hip pedometer that syncs with the Simband. Specifically, she will be developing the printed circuit board design for the component.

Alex Roman
Alex Roman is a senior in biomedical engineering and electrical engineering. For this project, he operates as the software lead. He will be focusing on the project software development. This will involve development of the Simband walking and falling algorithm as well as the emergency call features.

Eric Pearce-Smith
Eric Pearce-Smith is a senior electrical engineer with a focus in signals and systems processing. For this project, he is the designated budget manager. He will be working on the software aspect of the project, specifically focusing on interpreting the signals produced by the Samsung Simband sensors.

ProfessorSoumyajit Mandal
Professor Soumyajit Mandal is an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department at Case Western Reserve University and is currently the professor for the EECS 398: Senior Project course. He conducts research on ultra-broadband low-frequecy MR, two-dimensional NQR, low-power CMOS rectifier for RFID, and power-efficient wireless telemetry.

Professor Elizabeth Madigan is a professor for the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University. She conducts research on home healthcare issues, international healthcare issues, and resource use and patient outcomes of chronicalluy ill.

Professor Farhad Kaffashi is a research assistant professor in signal processing for the EECS department at Case Western Reserve University. For this project, he is assisting the team with setting up and acquiring data from the Simband.
